Cultural events, as well as economic and political cooperation, help Russia and China to establish ties and to maintain friendly relations, Russian publisher and book producer – curator of the Arsenyev Far East Award, Roman Kosygin, noted at a news conference announcing the lineup of the jury of the upcoming awards ceremony.

“There is such a concept as ‘people’s diplomacy’ in China. It translates into Russian as universal human relations at unofficial level. China is therefore greatly interested in the Far East and its border regions; the people of China study the works of Vasily Shukshin and Konstantin Paustovsky for comprehending their neighbor,” the award’s curator noted.

The expert also added that books about nature were highly popular on China’s domestic market. According to Kosygin, the people of China believe that they have failed to preserve their country’s pristine nature; this is why they like to write and read about the nature of Russia’s Far East so much.
The news conference participants announced the lineup of the smaller and larger juries of the eighth awards ceremony. Ten experts, including two Russian language experts from China, will study the works of the contestants.

“This year, Russia and China are are holding cross years of education < … >: it is therefore very important that we obtain feedback from foreign colleagues,” Roman Kosygin stressed.

Submissions for the eighth literature award “Far East “ named after Vladimir Arsenyev were received from February 1 through June 30. Authors from 27 Russian regions and four foreign countries, specifically, China, Mongolia, South Korea and Vietnam, submitted their masterpieces.
