The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area has approved its hydrocarbons production development strategy. It covers the period until 2050 and sets forth mechanisms for maintaining oil production and ensuring the region’s economic wellbeing, the regional government said in a statement.
“This is a comprehensive document, and our ability to fulfil its promise will largely depend on the way regional and federal governments, as well as minerals extraction companies work together. This is why the government has drafted a step-by-step plan for carrying out this concept,” Ruslan Kukharuk, the Governor of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, said.
Sergei Filatov, who heads the Minerals Production and Natural Resources Department in Yugra, the development scenario provides for producing 216 million tons of oil annually in the region, and also maintaining this level until 2050.
The concept’s primary purpose consists of enabling the region to maintain its share in Russia’s overall oil production at about 40 percent by effectively developing and exploiting the existing and future deposits, engaging in geological exploration and improving the oil recovery index.
