Industrial company in Krasnoyarsk Territory reimbursed losses to indigenous minority peoples of the North under new rules for the first time
The damage compensation agreement has been signed under the new federal legislation standards, according to the press service of the Agency for the development of northern territories and support for small indigenous peoples.
The agreement was executed with the mediation of the Council of Representatives of Indigenous Minorities of the Russian Federation under the Government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, but not directly between the company and the tribal communities of indigenous minority peoples of the North.
“An clear-cut mechanism for entering into such agreements makes the interaction between business and communities of indigenous minority peoples of the North more predictable and constructive. This approach helps take into account the interests of the indigenous peoples, preserve their cultural heritage and gives the companies clear regulations for operating in the Arctic and Northern territories,” stressed Anton Narchuganov, head of the Krasnoyarsk Territory’s Agency for the development of northern territories and support for small indigenous peoples
The agreement provides for paying about 47 million rubles during a five-year term to the tribal communities in Evenkia, whose traditional lands were disturbed in operating a trunk oil pipeline.
