Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area’s young tundra dwellers to be sent to schools by the beginning of the school year
Over 3,300 schoolchildren from indigenous families of the North will travel to boarding schools between August 23 and September 6, according to the press service of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area government.
The majority of children will be transported in an organized manner by special helicopters, as well as by river and road transport. Another 745 children, living in areas closer to settlements, will be taken to boarding schools by their parents.
The largest number of school students will arrive from the nomad camps of the Yamalsky District (1,255 children); Tazovsky District (955 children); Purovsky District (471 children); and Priuralsky District (439 children).
