Duma discussed 10-year outcomes of the Far East and Arctic development

Almost 6 trillion rubles have been put in 3,000 new investment projects, 1,014 enterprises have become operational and 181,000 new jobs have been created in the Far East Federal District, as reported by Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexei Chekunkov in the State Duma, in preparation for the annual report to the Russian Government.

Cities in the Far East are being renovated: 57 percent of the projects outlined in the master plans are being actively carried out. New social and transport infrastructure facilities are being built and public areas improved. Similar projects are launched in the backbone Arctic settlements.

Measures in support of demography have provided for the inflow of 30,000 young people aged 20-24 to the Far East over 10 years. In addition, the region has a high birth rate exceeding the Russian average by 11 percent.

The Minister named the construction of new infrastructure, including for energy and transport, an increase in the amount of mining and the depth of minerals processing, the development of new technologies and the creation of a comfortable living environment as priorities for the further development of the Far East.

The Arctic boasts over 3,000 projects with about one trillion rubles in investments launched and 358 enterprises commissioned.
