Emergencies Ministry gets final batch of ATVs this year, for its Arctic missions

The TM-140 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) that can plow through deep snow and swamps will be used for search-and-rescue missions in the Nenets Autonomous Area, according to the press service of the Rostec State Corporation.

Each ATV’s heated cabin accommodates up to seven people who feel comfortable despite subzero temperatures. The passenger module has room for eight more and can transport up to 30 people in case of emergency. Its freight capacity is 4 metric tons, and the ATV develops a speed of up to 45 kph on paved roads and up to 4 kph on bodies of water; its range is 500 km.

“The vehicle can be easily adapted for various missions; apart from the versatile module, it can carry a power generator, a workshop for conducting repairs and cleanup operations, as well as rescue equipment. Additional fuel tanks increase its range to 870 km and allow rescue teams to reach even the remotest areas. This is very important for Arctic territories whose adverse weather conditions can limit the use of aircraft,” Rostec sources noted.

The ATVs, delivered under earlier contracts, are already serving with rescue units in the Komi Republic, the Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Chukotka Autonomous Area and the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
