List of core Arctic communities amended

New cities and towns have been added to the list of core communities in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation; the Government of the Russian Federation has approved the relevant directive.

From now on, additional core communities include Khatanga in the Taimyr Dolgano-Nenets Municipal District of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Pevek-Bilibino, Anadyr and Egvekinot agglomerations in the Chukotka Autonomous Area, as well as Novy Urengoi, Noyabrsk and the Salekhard-Labytnangi agglomeration in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, the document reads, in part.

Core Arctic communities will serve as a base for implementing economic and infrastructure projects. Some cities and districts will develop mineral and raw materials centers for expanding the metallurgical sector. Others will implement top-priority investment projects, including the creation of logistic centers and hubs.
