Arctic wind power plants for Northern Sea Route to be developed in Russia
Specialized wind generators designed to power facilities along the Northern Sea Route will be developed in Russia, with plans also underway to create highly efficient solar power plants, Mikhail Kuznetsov, Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the Fuel and Energy Complex of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, said at a news conference of the TNF 2025 Industrial and Energy Forum.
Arctic-design wind turbines, capable of operating in extreme climatic conditions, will become an essential part of the infrastructure supporting the development of the Northern Sea Route. Meanwhile, the creation of advanced solar power plants will strengthen Russia’s technological sovereignty in the field of solar energy.
“We want to ensure our country’s technological sovereignty both in the efficiency of solar power plants – so that they meet the highest global standards – and in the production of Arctic wind power plants, which will undoubtedly help us achieve our goals in developing the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic,” the ministry representative emphasized.
