Murmansk Region boosts housing construction volumes
The Murmansk Region continues to build more housing; the total floorspace of newly commissioned housing has trebled, and construction of private homes has soared five times over, according to the region’s governor Andrey Chibis.
It became possible to attain these indicators with federal support, current preferences and infrastructure loans, Chibis noted.
“We managed to reboot the Arctic housing market and to drastically expand construction volumes. The total floorspace of newly commissioned housing has trebled, and construction of private homes has soared five times over. President of Russia Vladimir Putin has decided to retain 2-percent mortgages until 2030. According to developers, people are buying two-room and three-room apartments for their families wishing to live in the North,” Chibis said.
The Murmansk Region also implements its own Private Arctic Home program; those taking part in it have received 1,645 certificates, and over 1,100 new homes have been built.
According to the regional government’s press service, construction of housing for Northern residents in need of better living conditions exceeds projected targets by 139 percent. Work is underway to build 18 major social facilities, over 230 facilities have been renovated since 2019, or 47 percent more on 2010-2018.
