Kola Science Center’s initiative awarded the status of UNESCO project

The From the Arctic for the Arctic: Science Diplomacy for a Sustainable Future of the Region and its Inhabitants – FORAS project takes off the ground this fall and will be in effect until 2028, the center’s Press Service reports.

The initiative is aimed at promoting an open dialogue and exchange of knowledge between scientists and inhabitants of the Arctic region. The project includes a communications platform to be created under the UNESCO aegis to discuss climate change, methods to alleviate its consequences and ways of adapting to them, as well sustainable development models for Arctic communities.

FORAS will focus on strengthening international and inter-regional cooperation between scientists, experts and inhabitants of northern regions. It is also being planned that the project will help to enlist extra-regional participants in the Arctic dialogue from the CIS, BRICS, and SCO countries as well as other stakeholders.
