Norway introduces restrictions against Russian fishing vessels

The Russian Foreign Ministry reports that a note of protest was handed to the Norwegian Charge d’Affairs ad interim over new restrictions introduced against Russian fishing vessels.

“ It was declared to the Norwegian side that the said unfriendly measures were a gross violation of the bilateral agreements on fisheries, which undermined the years-old effective system that governed and regulated the procurement of commonly-owned reserves of fish in the Barents and Norwegian seas,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry also stressed that the Norwegian Government had decided to put Russia’s Norebo and Murman Seafood companies on its sanctions list as early as July 7, something that runs counter to the Bilateral Intergovernmental Agreement on Mutual Relations in the Area of Fisheries of 1976.

After being placed on the sanctions list, the two ship operators are stripped of access to Norwegian seaports and the territorial waters.
