Stand-by crews of the EMERCOM Arctic Center in Sabetta to start operations in January

Personnel of the Sabetta-based EMERCOM Arctic Rescue Center will start operations in early January 2026, although the opening of the center itself is scheduled for March 2026. A professional emergency rescue team will be certified for the purpose, press service of the Emergencies Ministry for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area reports.    

In parallel, work is under way to create an air rescue wing with two organic Mi-38PS helicopters to be supplied in 2026. It is also being planned to design and build an airfield infrastructure at the Sabetta International Airport, which is required for the air wing to stand by on alert duty.

According to EMERCOM Deputy Minister Roman Kurynin, the center will strengthen the local safety system and make it possible to provide a more effective response to any emergencies under adverse climatic conditions.
