The Arkhangelsk Region to start using unmanned surface vehicles in 2026

The pilot project to use small unmanned seagoing vessels will help to achieve a considerable improvement in freight carriage, particularly in hard-of-access Arctic areas, and upgrade local living standards, Press Service of the Ministry of Transport reports.

It notes that the project is chiefly aimed at testing possible employment scenarios, pinpointing technical and organizational problems, identifying effective solutions, and assessing the new sector’s economics.

It will be recalled that an unmanned craft, The Breeze, performed an experimental voyage in July 2025, covering 280 kilometers on the Arkhangelsk-Solovetsky Islands route.
