Karelia to get 2.7 billion rubles for infrastructure projects
Funds allocated under the Development of the Republic of Karelia for the Period until 2030 federal program will be used, among other things, to develop infrastructure in border areas, according to the Republic’s website.
In 2026, Karelia will continue the project to build a kindergarten for 150 children in Sortavala, a social and cultural center with a kindergarten for 80 children and an outpatient clinic in the Lahdenpohja Region, as well as a cultural development center and a hospital complex that includes a health center and a hospital in the city of Lahdenpohja.
Construction and maintenance of housing and utility infrastructure will continue in the Suoyarvi Region, and the reconstruction of a heat distribution network will be completed in the capital, Petrozavodsk. In the same city, plans are in place to finish the construction of an emergency care hospital’s surgical unit, one of Karelia’s largest projects in recent years.
It is noted that facilities for preschool education, healthcare, transport services, road infrastructure, and housing and utilities have been built under the program in different districts and regions across the Republic.
