Vladimir Putin opens a new Far Eastern railway via videoconference

President of Russia Vladimir Putin opened, via videoconference, the Pacific Railway between the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Khabarovsk Territory.

The 531-kilometer railway will transport 50 million metric tons of coal from the Elginsky coal deposit annually; 500 km of this railway pass via the Khabarovsk Territory, and 31 km via Yakutia.

The new transport and logistics corridor, part of a trans-border route connecting Russia with the Asia Pacific region, will help redistribute eastward freight flows and will also expedite the development of metallurgy, the machine-building and construction sectors.
