Lake Tuktykit in the Krasnoyarsk Territory’s Evenki Municipal District has been officially entered on Russia’s State Catalogue of Geographical Names, Press Service of the local Directorate of the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography (Rosreestr) reports.

Its name is the Evenki for “uprise.” From now on, all official documents, research papers and cartographic materials will make a correct use of the toponym.  

A spokesperson for the regional Rosreestr Directorate said that the registration of geographical names helped to ensure data accuracy and preserve cultural heritage of indigenous peoples.
