The city of Beloyarsky and Beryozovo urban-type settlement in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area are granted the backbone community status, according to the Russian Government executive order.The decision to enter these populated centers in the list of Arctic backbone communities was taken with a view to implement large-scale projects and increase control over that strategically important territory. They play the central role in ensuring national security and serve as a basis for developing mineral deposits as well as for launching and supporting economic and infrastructural initiatives.
