Logistics complex for Northern Sea Route vessels to be built in Chukotka

Chinese investors, with the support of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC), will build a logistics complex for Northern Sea Route vessels in the Chukotka Autonomous Area. The corresponding agreement was signed at the Eastern Economic Forum 2025, according to the press service of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.

Under the project, a logistics complex will be built in Provideniya Bay for the transshipment of cargo from Arctic-class vessels to conventional container ships to reduce transportation costs along the Northern Sea Route. The total investment in the project is 5 billion rubles. The commissioning of the complex will create 100 jobs.

According to Kirill Kamenev, FEDC Deputy General Director for Attracting Investments, the development of the Northern Sea Route is a strategic priority that will strengthen international trade, particularly in light of the active development of polar mineral deposits and the reorientation of cargo flows from the west to the east.

“In order for traffic along our northern route to grow, transportation must become more accessible. One of the projects that can reduce logistics costs is a new logistics center in Chukotka. In addition, it will encourage the development of transport links, port infrastructure, and warehouse complexes. This will drive economic growth in the region and enhance the competitiveness of the Northern Sea Route. The project, initiated by a Chinese investor, will receive full support from the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation,” Kamenev emphasized.
