A plan for developing the Northern Sea Route until 2035 aims to build ten new icebreakers, 46 search-and-rescue vessels and three bases for deploying the latter, Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, Yury Trutnev, told TASS.The fifth Project 22220 icebreaker Chukotka is to be completed in 2026.According to Trutnev, 11 search-and-rescue vessels are to be built throughout 2026 for the Northern Sea Route; they will supplement five vessels, completed in 2024-2025. Freighters will continue to be rerouted to the Northern Sea Route which handled 3.2 million metric tons of various consignments, including container traffic to Asia, last year.
