The Affordable Rental Accommodation in the Arctic program will be launched in the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions and in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area, Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic Alexei Chekunkov reported.“We have analyzed the demand for rental accommodation in the Arctic. At the initial stage, it is estimated to be 3,400 flats. We are planning to implement the new program in key towns within the Arctic zone, primarily those in the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area,” the Minister said, adding that it would be more effective and expedient to build new houses in the Arctic regions, given the high degree of wear and tear in the existing housing stock.
