Tax incentives for businesses in Karelia’s Arctic zone to remain in place in 2026

Next year residents of Karelia’s Arctic territories will continue to pay property tax on the same terms as now, but only if the total area of their commercial premises is 200 square meters or more, a document issued by the republican finance ministry says.

This threshold will go down to 150 sq m in 2027, and 100 sq m in 2028. Experts note that around 90 percent of the tax revenues generated under the updated law will go directly to local budgets.

The amendments to Karelia’s regional tax law were drafted on the instruction of Head of the Republic Artur Parfenchikov. Local lawmakers have approved the bill in the first reading, with the final second reading scheduled for November in Karelia’s Legislative Assembly.
