Following its modernization, the Port of Korsakov on Sakhalin will become part of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor, according to an announcement published on the Russian Government’s official MAX channel. Approximately 600 million rubles will be allocated to renovate the commercial port’s hydraulic engineering structures and other infrastructure.
“This approach will help ensure that all planned work to build a fish terminal is completed on schedule, while also creating new jobs on the island,” Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin stressed.
The project will also expand the port’s capacity to support oil and gas projects and accommodate tourist vessels, while reducing cargo handling times.
The Port of Korsakov handles the majority of passenger and freight traffic and plays an important role in supporting the fishing fleet. It is a key transport hub in the Russian Far East, with regular shipping services connecting it to the Kuril Islands and ports in East Asia.
