The new museum will be housed in a former mall in Norilsk and will feature collections from across the Arctic, RIA Novosti reports.According to Natalya Fedyanina, director of the Norilsk Museum, the city already has a traditional art gallery, so it was decided to give contemporary art its own dedicated building. The future museum will cover 3,400 square meters and include a repository with open storage, where artists and other creative professionals will be able to work and develop new contemporary art projects for the city.“Another unique feature is that the museum itself will function as a work of art. The architects have envisioned a voluminous, luminous structure, something like a ‘heater for the universe’ that radiates warmth. It represents a completely new type of building and technology for the Arctic,” Natalya Fedyanina added.Work is already underway to assemble the museum’s collection, with exhibits being sourced from various parts of the Arctic. This is laying the foundations for what will eventually become an extensive collection.
