Following the 57th session of the Joint Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission (JRNFC), a protocol has been signed to determine fishing quotas for the Barents and Norwegian seas for 2027, the Press Service of Russia’s Federal Agency for Fishery reports.
The total fishing quotas for the primary jointly regulated reserves have been increased – specifically, cod by 14 percent (325,000 tons) and haddock by 18 percent (180,000 tons). The parties have also agreed upon halibut and European perch fishing regulation parameters.
“The session and its outcome have once again demonstrated the parties’ intention to reach constructive solutions on the main agenda. I hope that the protocol will contribute to further development of rational fishing with due account for the interests of both Russian and Norwegian fishers,” noted Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery Ilya Shestakov.
Furthermore, the commission has approved a joint research program for next year and extended the cod and haddock reserve management regulations. The commission will specifically discuss the exchange quota formula in the first half of 2027.
