During the 16th Arctic expedition of the icebreaker Jidi, China successfully tested satellite internet in the Arctic for the first time, as well as in Antarctica and on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, RIA Novosti reports.
To test the connection, the ship’s crew held a multiparty video call with the North China Sea Bureau of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Qinling Station in Antarctica and a testing station in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
According to reports, both audio and video transmission were clear during the tests, confirming that China’s satellite internet system could operate reliably in harsh conditions, including extreme cold, high altitudes and storms.
