A new ecotrail has been unveiled in the Ivolginsky District of Buryatia. Architecturally, Tapkhar Ecotrail is dominated by 12 sculptures representing Chinese zodiac signs that were created by world-renowned sculptor Dashi Namdakov. The news was reported by the press service of the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev.
The trail opens with an original sculpture called Warriors. It is made of Karelian kelo pinewood, sapele redwood, copper, horsehair, and fabric. The rest of the trail is lined with sculptures of animals: a rat, a bull, a tiger, a rabbit, a dragon, a snake, a horse, a ram, a monkey, a rooster, a dog, and a pig.
Presidential envoy Yury Trutnev commented that the Tapkhar route is unique because it combines outdoor experience, art, and support of ethnic culture.
“New trails expand active leisure opportunities for local residents and attract tourists while stimulating the opening of hospitality facilities, local businesses, and the creation of new jobs,” he emphasized.

The trail is 4.5 km long and equipped with pit stops with manually crafted larch wood benches, observation points with panoramic views of the steppe, mountains, villages and Ivolginsky Datsan. The trail follows the course of the sun and symbolizes Goroo, traditional Buddhist circumambulation of a sacred site and purification.
“It is a powerful site where the beauty of nature blends with the history, legends and culture of our people. This location is already drawing visitors who go there to get a charge of energy, recuperate, and get inspiration from the unique art of our talented fellow Buryatian,” Head of the Republic of Buryatia Alexei Tsydenov said.
Director of the Far Eastern Trails Project Khaid Mantayev added that Tapkhar Ecotrail brings together high art and outdoor leisure.
“Together with Dashi Namdakov, we managed not only to unlock the beauty of this place but to create a world-class sculpture park,” he noted.
