A Russian-Chinese business cooperation center is being established in Blagoveshchensk and is expected to become a major federal-level hub for economic and industrial cooperation between Russia and China in the Far East, said Kirill Babayev, Director of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia (ICCA) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Kirill Babayev made the remarks in response to a question from an Arctic.ru correspondent at a news conference marking the institute’s 60th anniversary.“Large-scale facilities are currently under construction in Blagoveshchensk to accommodate Russian and Chinese companies working on new industrial projects involving both trade and manufacturing cooperation,” he said.According to Kirill Babayev, the institute is helping lay the groundwork for the center by working with industry associations in both Russia and China. It helps businesses find suitable partners, connecting Russian companies seeking to enter the Chinese market with Chinese investors interested in Russia.Experts from the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia, which will serve as the center’s main operator, are also helping train personnel at Amur State University and develop relevant educational programs.“There is still a great deal of work ahead, but I consider this a successful example of cooperation between regional authorities and our institute. As experts, we are helping the region build stronger ties with its neighbors,” Kirill Babayev said.The ICCA director also noted that the project includes the construction of what will be the world’s first cross-border cableway between Russia and China.“I believe we will see more projects of this kind, given the tremendous demand for cooperation among both Chinese and Russian businesses,” the expert concluded.
