Final preparations are underway for the launch of the Chernogorsk ore mining and processing plant (MPP) in the Norilsk industrial area of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, scheduled for the end of this year, the Rostec State Corporation press service reports.The plant’s design capacity is up to 9 million metric tons of ore processed per year, with the recovery of 250,000 metric tons of copper and nickel concentrates. Once the Norilsk-1 deposit is developed, capacity will reach 14 million metric tons per year, making it possible to produce up to 55 metric tons of platinum-group metals annually and providing a resource base for more than 50 years.“This is one of the largestindustrial facilities built from scratch in the permafrost zone. It will produce platinum and palladium, critical raw materials for high-techindustries,” the statement says.The Chernogorsk MPP project is included in the Russian Federation’s Strategy for the Development of the Russian Arctic Zone until 2035. It provides for the creation of 1,600 jobs, promotesimport substitution and is aimed at developing the Northern Sea Route.
