The first sunken ship has been raised in the seaport of Tiksi, Yakutia, under the General Cleanup federal project. Another 11 shipwrecks are to be raised in the region by the end of 2030, reads a press release of the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport (Rosmorrechflot).A comprehensive survey is carried out in the water area before salvaging to identify all objects on the seabed and register their location and characteristics.“The project is of strategic importance for the development of seaports in the Far East and for unlocking the socioeconomic potential of adjacent territories. Priority is given to raising ships that interfere with navigation and fishing, have a negative effect on the environment, and hinder the development of coastal infrastructure,” the press release reads.Overall, 17 sunken ships are to be raised and disposed of under the General Cleanup project by the end of 2026. This work is ongoing in the Magadan and Sakhalin regions, the Kamchatka and Primorye territories, the Chukotka Autonomous Area, and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
