The new Kuzbass-based Setyrise autonomous communications system project aims to provide communications to remote areas of the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East, where more than 40 percent of the territory has no cellular service or high-speed internet, according to the press service of the Kemerovo Region – Kuzbass Government.The system can transmit data over distances of more than 100 km at speeds of up to 500 Gbit/s. It can be used at remote industrial facilities, construction sites and rotation camps, as well as in fire and environmental monitoring systems.Furthermore, installing the Kuzbass system requires neither additional on-site facilities nor power transmission lines, which is a particular advantage in permafrost conditions. The system runs on solar and wind power and can fall back on reserve sources when necessary. Its stored energy reserve lasts up to 250 hours.“Our engineers and developers have long been able to deliver solutions that are in demand not only in our region, but elsewhere in the country. <…> We already have 10 such systems in operation, including at remote industrial facilities. This technology helps us establish communications where building conventional infrastructure is complicated or too expensive,” Kemerovo Region Governor Ilya Seredyuk noted.The system has been patented. The next stage will be launching pilot projects in Chukotka and Yamal, using the Arctic version of the equipment designed to operate at low temperatures and in icing conditions.
