Five boiler houses at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Amur Region have been connected to the gas distribution network. In total, social gasification facilities have been launched in seven Russian regions. President Vladimir Putin took part in the ceremony via video conference, according to the Kremlin’s official website.“Russia holds the world’s largest natural gas reserves. Our goal is to ensure that this resource serves our country first and foremost, helping to develop the economy and the social sphere and to improve the quality of life for our people,” the President emphasized.Amur Region Governor Vasily Orlov said that the town of Tsiolkovsky and the Vostochny Cosmodrome – the centrepiece of Russia’s space sector – are now fully connected to the gas network.Alexei Ryzhenkov, acting head of the Vostochny Cosmodrome Directorate, noted that connecting the boiler houses to the gas supply system will provide heating for six cosmodrome sites.“Priority consumers include the launch and technical facilities for the Soyuz-2 launch vehicles. We also plan to switch the technical facilities of the Angara space launch system over to gas as well,” Ryzhenkov stressed.The Amur Region press service added that major construction of gas boiler houses is currently underway in the town of Svobodny and the city of Blagoveshchensk, while single-family homes are also being connected to the gas network.
