Construction has begun on the Naiba deep-water cargo terminal in Yakutia, which is set to become a key hub of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. The project was launched by Nikolai Patrushev, Aide to the President and Chairman of the Maritime Collegium, according to the press service of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.“Naiba is intended to serve as a key piece of maritime infrastructure for developing the northeastern part of Russia’s Arctic zone, tapping into its vast mineral and raw material reserves, and enhancing the reliability of deliveries under the Northern Supply Haul program,” Nikolai Patrushev emphasized.In the initial phase, specialists will construct a temporary marine berth, which will later be replaced by a permanent port.Building the temporary berth will kickstart the development of the Kyuchus gold deposit and enable the receipt of heavy cargo for subsequent transport via the Naiba–Kyuchus winter road.As Alexei Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, noted, the new terminal will create conditions for implementing new industrial projects and establish a long-term cargo base for the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor.According to Aisen Nikolayev, Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Naiba will eventually become a key node on the Mohe–Naiba route and within the broader Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor system, linking the Russian Far East and the Russian Arctic to international markets.“For Yakutia, this is an opportunity to bring vast territories and rich mineral resources into the development process, and to create new production facilities and jobs. In essence, we are building a new transport foundation for the republic’s development for decades to come,” the regional head added.The Mohe–Naiba route will connect the provinces of Northeast China with the Arctic coast, creating the shortest route for cargo transit through the region. The total volume of investment in its development is currently estimated at 1.13 trillion rubles.
