The Institute of Physical Culture and Sports at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) has unveiled the Far East’s first laboratory for functional diagnostics and motor capabilities. The presentation took place at the Russian Ministry of Sports pavilion on “Far East Street” during the 2026 Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), according to the FEFU website.The new laboratory uses digital technologies to comprehensively assess an athlete’s physiology, biomechanics, progress, and muscle activity, while also making it possible to adjust training based on health status. Unlike standard medical check-ups, the assessments focus primarily on how the body responds to physical exertion, helping to reduce the risk of injury.Diagnostics are conducted in stages. First, specialists perform a biomechanical analysis of movement techniques and evaluate training efficiency by monitoring physiological indicators. They then develop an individualized program covering training, recovery, and digital tracking. Finally, the athlete receives practical recommendations tailored to their specific sport and skill level.The data obtained will be valuable to doctors, rehabilitation specialists, researchers, and educators. Immediate plans include establishing baseline standards for various age groups and sports, developing methodological guides for physical education departments, and integrating diagnostic modules into master’s and doctoral curricula.“It is important for us to prepare students for the new realities of the sports industry. They need to know how to apply their knowledge using high-tech, highly specialized equipment. This will give them a unique edge over the competition. We are gradually launching a process that will allow us to view sports in a new light in the future. This will be a major breakthrough for sports in Primorye,” said Mark Yakubov, Director of the FEFU Institute of Physical Culture and Sports.The laboratory is designed primarily for professional clubs, competitive athletes, coaches, and national teams. However, students, trainees from youth sports schools, and active lifestyle enthusiasts can also undergo diagnostic testing.
