Russia must not merely retain its vast Far Eastern and Arctic spaces, but also develop and strengthen them, Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on the development of the Far East held on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.Vladimir Putin also said that the Government had completed work on a new development strategy for the Far Eastern Federal District through 2036. He recalled that a recent operational meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council had discussed the development strategy for the Russian Arctic zone and mechanisms for its implementation.“In effect, these two documents constitute a common action plan and a set of interconnected tasks to be addressed jointly by the federal authorities, regions, municipalities, businesses and public associations – naturally, with the most active involvement of residents of these regions and with due regard for their needs,” Vladimir Putin said.The President also noted that highly favorable conditions were being created for businesses and enterprises operating in the Arctic and the Russian Far East.“Let me stress that, in effect, we are talking about a new development model for the Russian Far East and Arctic, in which special, highly favorable conditions for businesses and organizations, as well as bold legal innovations, are becoming the norm and a defining feature of the region’s business and investment climate,” the President said.

Russia must not merely retain its vast Far Eastern and Arctic spaces, but also develop and strengthen them, Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on the development of the Far East held on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.
“Today, the Russian Far East and Arctic are demonstrating strong momentum and positive change; in a number of key areas, their development rates exceed nationwide indicators,” the President stressed.
