Over the next two years, emergency medical rescue centers will open in Dikson and Khatanga in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, as well as in Tiksi in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), to provide medical assistance to seafarers along the Northern Sea Route. Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA), reported this at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.According to Skvortsova, the centers will be coordinated by a specialized facility in Murmansk, established on the basis of the Pirogov Federal Center for Arctic Medicine of the Murmansk Multidisciplinary Center.“Taking into account the Northern Sea Route development plan, we are establishing a comprehensive network of emergency medical rescue centers: the Emergency Situations Ministry is responsible for its own component, while we are creating emergency medical rescue centers equipped with operating theaters, intensive care units, and infection-control modules, including isolation facilities for use as needed, as well as the necessary infrastructure for patient evacuation,” Skvortsova said.The first emergency medical rescue center was opened by the FMBA jointly with Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry in Pevek in January 2025. The second center began operating in Sabetta in April 2026.
