More than 2,000 residents of the Amur Region are now using long-term care social services for seniors and people with disabilities, according to the regional government’s press service. Established in 2021, the system offers three main types of support.
The first is a day support and rehabilitation program for the elderly and people with disabilities, run at specialized centers. It offers activities designed to develop cognitive, memory, and fine motor skills, as well as tactile sensitivity. Currently, around 400 people attend these centers, most of them between the ages of 70 and 80.
For family members and close relatives caring for those who need constant attention, the system provides free caregiver training programs that teach practical skills for providing effective care. These are offered at integrated social service centers, in the home, or remotely. In 2026, a total of 1,213 people completed the training.
The third service is a rehabilitation equipment rental program. Residents of the Amur Region can borrow wheelchairs, walkers, anti-bedsore mattresses, and other equipment free of charge. Each item is selected individually, and the loan period can last up to a year. To date, more than 750 local residents have used the rental service.
