Hydrocarbon production at the Layavozhskoye and Komandirshorskoye fields in the Nenets Autonomous Area is scheduled to begin before the end of 2026, as was announced by Nenets Autonomous Area Governor Irina Gekht during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
“These are, of course, landmark projects for the area, given that no new fields have been opened for quite some time. These also represent new opportunities both for development and for attracting new residents – that is, for creating jobs – with around 300 new positions to be created,” the Kremlin’s official website quoted her as saying.
The governor also highlighted progress on several major investment projects in the Nenets Autonomous Area. In particular, work continues on the development of the Indiga deepwater port at Cape Bolshoy Rumyanichny. Investment in the project will total approximately 10 billion rubles.

“An ice-free port with depths exceeding 20 meters and a highly convenient bay which requires virtually no icebreaker escort,” Gekht emphasized.

Another 10 billion rubles is expected to be secured under a concession agreement for the reconstruction of the runway in Naryan-Mar. Preparation of the necessary documentation is currently underway.
Design work has been completed for the construction of a bridge across the Kuya River on the Naryan-Mar – Usinsk motorway; the project’s cost will total approximately 8 billion rubles.
In addition, the governor noted a twofold increase in the number of small and medium-sized businesses over the past two years, a 50 percent rise in the number of self-employed individuals, and a surge in industrial production in the region.
