Thailand, as a major hub country in Southeast Asia, requires additional logistics capacity and solutions – potentially involving more than one country, according to Alexei Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic, in an exclusive comment to Arctic.ru following the ninth meeting of the Joint Russian-Thai Commission on Bilateral Cooperation.“This work is underway, and we will certainly work together to develop multilateral solutions that will benefit both Russia and Thailand while creating new logistics routes,” he said. “For Thailand, this will focus on energy and fertilizers. For us, the focus will be on container shipping to boost mutual trade.”Key topics on the commission’s agenda included advancing economic cooperation across various sectors, measures to boost bilateral trade, collaboration in tourism and the creative economy, and expanding industrial cooperation to implement high-tech investment projects in the Far East and the Arctic through preferential treatment. The commission meeting was co-chaired by Alexei Chekunkov and Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand.
