Russia has invited BRICS countries to contribute to developing the Northern Sea Route as investors and operators, as well as to expand transport and logistics infrastructure for promoting their industrial products, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Alexei Gruzdev said following the BRICS Industry Ministers’ meeting in Jaipur.The Deputy Foreign Minister of Industry and Trade went on to note that a longer navigation season along the route served as an additional advantage.“We tend to treat climate change as a challenge but in this particular case it has led to a longer navigation season, which means the ability to use the Northern Sea Route for a longer period every year,” he pointed out.According to earlier reports, a Chinese company will be launching a regular container shipping line along the Northern Sea Route in August with ships sailing out every week throughout the navigation season. Rosatom has already cleared seven vessels to undertake this journey. Shipments between China and Russia account for almost 15 percent of the total cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route, and are expected to reach 20 million tons by 2030.
