Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev attended the rollout ceremony for the nuclear-powered submarine Ulyanovsk at the Sevmash Shipyard in Severodvinsk, reads a press release of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and ArcticUlyanovsk is the sixth Yasen-M class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine. These fourth-generation submarines have the latest weapons, electronic and nuclear propulsion devices. Yury Trutnev stated that the new multipurpose nuclear-powered submarine will strengthen the protection of Russian interests in the Arctic.Arkhangelsk Region Governor Alexander Tsybulsky added that warships are built at the Sevmash Shipyard to ensure Russia’s combat ability and protect its security.“The launch of the sixth submarine of the Yasen-M class marks a major production milestone for the shipyard, a new modernization stage of our submarine fleet, and the result of hard work in the sector which largely shapes the history and modern development of the Arkhangelsk Region,” Alexander Tsybulsky stated.The submarine is to be delivered to the Navy in December 2027 and will serve in the Northern Fleet. The crew for the new sub has already been formed and is undergoing training.
