An updated strategy for the development of the Russian Arctic zone, together with a comprehensive development project covering the Arctic and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor (TATC), will be presented within the next two to three months. This was announced by Sergei Vakhrukov, Head of the Presidential Directorate for National Maritime Policy, at a roundtable discussion in the Federation Council.According to the website of the State Commission for Arctic Development, the comprehensive project will serve as the key mechanism for implementing the new strategy. The document will encompass not only the Northern Sea Route but also river routes providing access to China, new energy capacity, and railways and highways. The draft strategy will soon be reviewed at a meeting of the Russian Security Council and presented to President Vladimir Putin.“We expect the strategy itself, together with a comprehensive TATC development project as a practical tool for its implementation, to be finalized within the next two to three months, complete with specific targets, timelines, and responsible participants,” said Sergei Vakhrukov.
