Russia’s wealth will grow through the Arctic, which is very important from an economic perspective, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Navy personnel held on Navy Day.The President also said that Russia has never sought any sort of confrontation in the Arctic, but it will firmly protect its national interests in this region.The President also spoke about Russia’s unique icebreaker fleet, which no other country in the world has. He said that Russia was building a new super-powerful Lider-class icebreaker. Icebreakers like that one will considerably expand navigation capabilities in the Arctic and ensure year-round shipping on the Northern Sea Route.Vladimir Putin also stated that the Northern Sea Route runs through Russia’s territorial waters and is entirely under its control.He also said that exploiting the capabilities of the Northern Sea Route requires developing ports and coastal logistics, and maintaining the operation of ship and crew rescue services in distress. At the same time, work is underway to create comfortable living and working conditions in key Arctic cities.

Russia’s wealth will grow through the Arctic, which is very important from an economic perspective, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Navy personnel held on Navy Day.
“Now, it is no exaggeration to say that Russia’s wealth will grow through the Arctic. It is difficult even to measure it now, and it is difficult to put a monetary value on the resources with which the Arctic is so richly endowed,” the head of state said.
The President also said that Russia has never sought any sort of confrontation in the Arctic, but it will firmly protect its national interests in this region.
“We have always invited everybody interested to cooperate in solidarity and in line with international law. We are willing to cooperate with everybody provided that – and this goes without saying – these routes belong to the Russian Federation,” Vladimir Putin said, adding that the Arctic is a legitimate part of sovereign Russian territory.
