The actual investment in the Far Eastern Federal District and the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation has soared from 1.6 trillion rubles in 2020 to 6.6 trillion rubles today. Over 1,300 enterprises have been commissioned, and almost 200,000 jobs created. Chair of the State Duma Committee on the Development of the Far East and Arctic, Nikolai Kharitonov mentioned these statistics at a news conference on the Committee’s performance during the Eighth Convocation.These territories are also covered by the Far Eastern and Arctic Hectare program; almost 180,000 families have taken advantage of this program to date. The greatest demand is posted in the Primorye and Khabarovsk territories, Yakutia and the Sakhalin Region. Nikolai Kharitonov added that the next State Duma was expected to pass legislation formalizing a single preferential regime for the Far East and the Arctic. A separate federal law on permafrost will also be approved. There are plans to improve mechanisms for issuing housing certificates and bonuses and to stipulate competitive salaries.

“The Far East now accounts for every tenth ruble worth of investment nationwide. The Arctic Zone generates every sixth ruble in the national economy. This is the most rapidly developing macro-region in conditions of unprecedented sanctions pressure,” he stressed and added that, in the past ten years, the average budget of regions of the Far Eastern Federal District had expanded 2.3-fold.
