An enterprise that has opened in the town of Beryozovka in the Kondopzhsky District will manufacture baby food, biologically active additives and healthy dietetic foods from laminaria and fucus, as per the press service of the Republic of Karelia. The plant will become the country’s first full-cycle enterprise for processing brown algae (that have a unique chemical composition) from the White Sea.
The Head of the Republic Arthur Parfenchikov said he was confident that the plant would become a flagship enterprise of the Karelian industry and the pride of the country. The newly-launched plant heralds a conversion from primary to in-depth algae processing. This means that hi-tech jobs will be created in Beryozovka and the Kondopozhsky District, the territory will develop, and an attendant infrastructure will be established, Arthur Parfenchikov noted.
The Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery, Ilya Shestakov, noted that Karelia ranked among leading aquatic culture producers.

“It is necessary to attain new levels, to train specialists and to implement measures that will boost their effectiveness many times over. Russia has huge resources for this purpose,” the Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery stressed.

The 3,000 sqm production facility will create about 100 jobs; the enterprise will train personnel in cooperation with the Petrozavodsk State University.
The plant is to achieve design capacity in 2027 and will annually manufacture 10,000 metric tons of produce.
