Over the 20 years while the government program of assistance to voluntary relocation to the Russian Federation was effective more than 73,000 Russian citizens, who lived abroad, relocated to the 11 Far Eastern regions, according to the press service of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation.
The Primorye and Khabarovsk territories as well as the Amur Region are leaders in accommodating the relocatees.
According to Grigory Smolyak , Director of the Social Development Department at the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic , the government program remains a key instrument for attracting people to the Far Eastern Federal District and promotes long-term development of Far Eastern areas.

“The government program helps attracting people, who associate their future with the Far East and are ready to live, work and start families in that macro region. All regions in the Far Eastern Federal District are priority settlement territoriesand offer the program participants an expanded set of support measures, including a larger relocation allowance,” he noted.

Mr. Smolyak called the housing subsidy a most in-demand measure of support. Last year’s list of its recipients included 679 families, and the total amount of payments made up 1.93 billion rubles.
Over the recent five months the local authorities issued 304 housing certificates worth 900 million rubles for 939 Russian citizens, who had relocated to the Far East under the program.
