The reopening ceremony for the region’s largest and busiest land border crossing took place on June 29. According to the regional government’s press service, the upgraded facility can now process up to 1,300 vehicles per day – nearly three times its previous capacity of 450.
The modernization of the Pogranichny checkpoint marks a key milestone in the development of the Primorye-1 international transport corridor, the regional government said.
“The reconstruction of the Pogranichny checkpoint was carried out on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is an important step for logistics in the Primorye Territory and the entire Far Eastern macro region. The Russian Far East is a territory of advanced development that sets trends for the whole country, which is why transport infrastructure occupies a prominent place in the United Russia party’s people’s program. The Primorye Territory has always served as Russia’s gateway to the East, and today these entry points fully meet international standards,” Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin said.
According to Primorye Territory Governor Oleg Kozhemyako, the region is focused on making border crossings faster and more convenient.
“We have built an important facility, and our shared task now is to ensure the seamless coordination of all services and technological processes. The new checkpoint must operate efficiently and reliably for citizens and businesses alike,” he said.
Kozhemyako added that the upgraded Pogranichny checkpoint will strengthen trade and economic ties between Russia and China, boost tourism, and create new opportunities for cross-border cooperation between the two countries’ regions.
