Komi Republic’s Head held a working meeting with Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic Alexei Chekunkov in Syktyvkar on June 25.
The regional Government’s press service reports that the officials discussed how to develop the region’s Arctic municipalities, with a focus on the city of Vorkuta.
According to Alexei Chekunkov, the plan for the development of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor will include a VEB.RF-handled soft-term financing project and a plan to zero out the NG-related excise duty rates for gas chemistry facilities in the Arctic.
“Vorkuta’s own energy resources and pipeline, rail, and social infrastructure are assets that enable us to create a model under which Vorkuta will acquire a modern gas chemistry facility whose products will be transported to the Northern Sea Route and included in the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor logistics,” Alexei Chekunkov said.
He added that his Ministry, jointly with the Corporation for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic, VEB.RF, investors, and the Government of the Komi Republic, was ready to search for a financial and economic model that would make it possible for Vorkuta to switch over to a new economic system.
