The People’s Republic of China now accounts for 52 percent of the Republic of Karelia’s total foreign trade turnover, Head of the Republic of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov stated during a meeting with Consul General of China in St Petersburg, Luo Zhanhui.According to the press service of the Karelian Government, the region’s exports to China are primarily products of the forestry sector, such as sawn timber, pulp, paper, and cardboard. Karelia also exports fish products to the Chinese market. In the near future, the region plans to ship a batch of Karelian berry products to China as well.In turn, China supplies Karelia with high-tech equipment and components for the mining and stone-processing industries, including mining loaders, excavators, dump trucks, and drilling rigs.During the meeting, the parties also discussed prospects for cooperation in tourism, science, culture, and education.

“Per last year’s results, trade between China and Karelia increased by almost 25 percent compared with 2024. Exports of Karelian goods grew by 8 percent, while imports of Chinese products to Karelia tripled,” Artur Parfenchikov emphasized.
