More jobs need to be created in Russia’s small cities, in particular in the Arctic Zone, to develop territories, said Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The head of the region noted that last year, 35 percent more people relocated to the Murmansk Region than a year earlier – it’s a record.According to him, this objective urgently requires implementing the master plans: it is necessary to ensure that companies find it economically beneficial to expand production in small cities. Eventually, jobs will not only be preserved but their number will increase, which in turn will promote both the economy and infrastructural and social development in the regions. The Murmansk Region Governor also emphasized that the President’s decision to allocate at least 5 percent of the national projects’ funds for financing core cities of the Arctic and the Far East will help create there more comfortable conditions and attract more people to the territories which matter so much to the country. To this end, local authorities together with businesses should already now determine the main points of growth in the economy and social area and provide them with the necessary number of personnel for developing the territory,” stressed Andrei Chibis.

Murmansk Region Governor calls for creating more jobs in the Arctic
More jobs need to be created in Russia’s small cities, in particular in the Arctic Zone, to develop territories, said Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The head of the region noted that last year, 35 percent more people relocated to the Murmansk Region than a year earlier – it’s a record.
“This an indicator of some possibility. Life in small cities exist and will certainly exist. The provision of public amenities, of course becomes critical. It is convenient to raise children when it is safe and people have the entire infrastructure like daycare centers and schools. But nothing of these will appear in the absence of jobs,” underscored Andrei Chibis.
According to him, this objective urgently requires implementing the master plans: it is necessary to ensure that companies find it economically beneficial to expand production in small cities.
