Head of the Republic of Komi Rostislav Goldshtein and Governor of the Nenets Autonomous Area Irina Gekht had a working meeting at the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. They discussed improving transport connections between the two regions as well as modernizing the road that connects Syktyvkar and Naryan-Mar, the Press Service of the Nenets Autonomous Area Government reports.“The region has approved a road development program for 2026–2031, with priority sections for maintenance and repair according to regulatory standards. They include a 48-kilometer road section from Usinsk to the border of the Nenets Autonomous Area, scheduled for maintenance in 2027–2028 with 1.1 billion rubles in funding. The region’s government has already submitted a request for additional funding from the federal budget to fulfill the entire scope of the planned works,” Rostislav Goldshtein noted.The heads of regions also discussed air connections between Naryan-Mar and Syktyvkar. Currently, flights depart twice a week and are in high demand in both regions, serving as an important transport corridor for tourists and transit passengers alike: there are subsidized flights to ten destinations operating from the Nenets Autonomous Area. The parties will consider possibilities for the matched funding of this itinerary.“We will continue to develop our logistics infrastructure in cooperation with the Republic of Komi as it will serve residents of both regions for decades,” Irina Gekht said following the meeting.The heads of regions also emphasized that achieving transport infrastructure development goals and improving mobility is only possible through joint efforts and synchronized plans.
